Explaining different order Statuses
When you place a trade through Silo Markets, your order may move through several different statuses before it is completed. Understanding these statuses can help you know whether an order has been submitted, is still waiting to execute, or requires additional action.
This article explains what Pre-Submitted, Submitted, and Pending mean, why a limit order may not fill, how to cancel an order, and what to do if a cancellation fails.
1. What Does "Pre-Submitted" Mean?
Pre-Submitted means your order has been received by the trading system but has not yet been fully submitted to the market for execution.
The order may still be undergoing processing or checks before it becomes active.
2. What Does "Submitted" Mean?
Submitted means the order has been submitted for execution.
A submitted order is not necessarily filled. Depending on the order type and market conditions, it may remain open until it is executed, canceled, or otherwise expires.
3. What Does "Pending" Mean?
Pending generally means the order is still being processed and has not reached a final status.
The order may remain pending while Silo or its brokerage infrastructure processes the request.
If an order remains pending longer than expected, check the order details and contact Silo Support if you need assistance.
4. What Does "Auto-Canceled" Mean?
Auto-Canceled refers to an order that is automatically canceled by the system, such as when an order exceeds your settled available cash balance.
5. Why Didn't My Limit Order Fill?
A limit order only executes at the specified limit price or a price more favorable to you.
For a buy limit order, the market generally needs to reach your limit price or lower. For a sell limit order, the market generally needs to reach your limit price or higher. Additionally, order duration matters: Day orders expire automatically at the market close, while Good Till Canceled (GTC) orders stay working until they are either filled or canceled.
Even if the market reaches your limit price, an order may not fill immediately because execution can depend on factors such as:
- Available shares at your price.
- Other orders ahead of yours.
- Market liquidity.
- Market conditions.
- Trading hours.
- The security's availability for trading.
A limit order does not guarantee execution.
6. How Do I Cancel an Order?
If your order is still eligible for cancellation:
- Open your Orders or Activity section.
- Select the open order.
- Choose Cancel Order.
- Review the cancellation request.
- Confirm the cancellation.
A cancellation request does not guarantee that the order will be canceled. If the order executes before the cancellation is processed (i.e., if a fill lands first), the trade stands and can no longer be canceled.
7. What If Canceling an Order Gives Me an Error?
If you receive an error while attempting to cancel an order:
- Check the order's current status.
- Refresh the order or activity screen.
- Confirm that the order is still open and eligible for cancellation.
- Avoid repeatedly submitting cancellation requests if the order's status is unclear; try refreshing once instead.
- Contact Silo Support if you cannot determine whether the order was canceled or executed.
If the order is time-sensitive, contact support as soon as possible and provide the relevant order information.
Conclusion
Pre-Submitted means an order is still being processed before submission, while Submitted means it has been sent for execution. Pending indicates that the order has not yet reached a final status, and Auto-Canceled occurs when an order exceeds settled available cash.
Limit orders may remain unfilled because their price conditions have not been met or because of market and liquidity conditions. If you need to cancel an open order, use the cancellation option in your account and verify the resulting status. If cancellation produces an error or the order status is unclear, contact Silo Support.
