What can I trade?
Silo lets you invest in stocks and ETFs across U.S. markets through a commission-free cash account. Some additional investing features are available through your Interactive Brokers (IBKR) secure portal rather than directly in the Silo app or web platform.
In the Silo app and web platform
You can trade:
- U.S. stocks across supported U.S. markets
- ETFs, including income and covered-call ETFs
Silo does not charge commissions for stock and ETF trades.
Through your IBKR secure portal
Some account and investing features are managed through your IBKR secure portal. You can access the portal from your name → Settings → Access Secure Portal.
Margin
You can request margin through Account Type in the IBKR portal. IBKR requires you to be at least 21 years old and meet certain financial requirements, so margin may not be available for every account.
Dividend reinvestment (DRIP)
You can manage dividend reinvestment elections through Settings → Dividend Election in the IBKR portal.
Recurring deposits and investments
Recurring deposits and recurring investments can be set up through the IBKR portal.
Mutual funds
Mutual funds are currently held and viewed through IBKR rather than directly in the Silo interface. Silo is working to bring mutual funds into the Silo experience.
In the meantime, mutual fund holdings still count fully toward your portfolio value, points, and applicable bonuses.
Tax lots and lot-matching methods
Tax-lot information and lot-matching methods are managed through the IBKR portal.
Trading permissions
Certain complex or leveraged products require additional trading permissions through IBKR before you can purchase them. This includes leveraged ETFs.
Not currently supported
Silo does not currently support:
- Options trading
- Direct cryptocurrency trading (crypto ETFs are supported)
- Municipal bonds
- Certain closed-end funds that are available only through the IBKR portal
Silo also currently offers an iOS app and web platform; there is no Android app yet.
